Definitely my least favourite of the three books I’ve read by him.
But, I must hand it to him. Khaled Hosseini is one of the most beautiful storytellers I’ve read. I absolutely adore the way he writes. It’s easy to read, and it flows wonderfully.
The characters were written masterfully as well.
There were parts of the book where I felt like I related to characters on a deeply personal level.
For sure, that’s the highlight of the book.

What I didn’t like about the book was the plot, or lack thereof.
And that’s because the focus of the story kept changing to an entirely new character, and sometimes, they’re not as important or relevant to the entire story

Light spoilers

One of the longest chapters in the book revolved around this character named ‘Markos’, who popped in chapter two and had some friendship with the character mentioned in that chapter.
Markos was brought in the penultimate chapter as well. Personally that was the chapter that l dragged myself to reading.
It was nice, but it didn’t serve the whole story in any way.

In conclusion: it’s a good read, but I don’t think I’ll be recommending this book to anyone.

3/5
