Delhi Crime: An incredibly well-rounded show

A couple of days back, I was browsing through Netflix (as one does), and I was searching for some Indian content. And I saw a show that caught my eye- Delhi Crime

The plot of the show revolves around the true story of a gang rape that happened in Delhi circa 2012, and the show shows an aspect of the horrible story from a perspective of the Delhi police. One that we as the general public usually love scrutinizing.

The definite highlight of the show was the more than stellar casting choices. Shefali Shah as DCP Vartika Chaturvedi was jus- just bloody brilliant. I loved every scene she was in. Rajesh Tailang as Vartika’s right hand man was the more calm, level headed of the two and he did an amazing job as well.

SLIGHT SPOILERS: (skip a block if you want to avoid it)

One of the scenes that stood out for me was the scene that involved one of the rapists detailing the night of the rape. Everything about this was so goddamn infuriating. From the way the rapist describes the night with absolutely no soul and no remorse, to the reactions of the DCP and one of the new recruits, Neeti. I never realized that some of these perpetrators actually have no regrets for their immoral actions.

On top of trying to catch these perpetrators, the Delhi Police were under constant scrutiny because of the media attention that the case got, and how the police had to go about handling the public outrage that it caused.

All in all, this definitely opened up some new perspectives and it was definitely one of those shows that need to be seen by every Indian.

5/5
